There's a new typo game on the web! It's called the KERNTYPE created by Mark Mackay for Method of Action. The game objective is simply to achieve a "pleasant and readable text" by dragging the letters using your mouse, your keyboards, or even your finger. We found out that we achieved score better using mouse rather than an iPad. So what's yours?
Head to type.method.ac to start playing, it's FREE! Thanks to Oka Kuswandi for sharing.
Linotype: The Film is a feature-length documentary centered around the Linotype typecasting machine. Called the "Eighth Wonder of the World" by Thomas Edison, the Linotype revolutionized printing and society. Very few people know about the inventor, his fascinating machine, or the revolution it sparked. The Linotype brought about a change in communication as dramatic as Twitter today.
After the original successful Kickstarter campaign, they spent six months traveling the United States and Germany interviewing people and gathering amazing footage for the film. They have interviewed 45 people and had 26 separate shoots. Now that shooting is complete, they are in need of funds to finish post-production.So, what about supporting them? :)
For those of you who haven't seen this, one of the most inpiring designer in our lifetime, Erik Spiekermann. He mostly talked about design processes, the analogies of music and typography, and better client culture that we need.

On 24th of July, 2011, we're honoured to be invited to talk at the Plaza Desain in:spire 2011 by Binus Design Class. It was a fun 3 hour geeky talks, discussing Modular Scaling in Typography, from Aldus Manutius approach to modern days design. Typogeek should host our own geek talks events don't ya think? Anyways, the crowd was amazing, the show was nice!
Thanks to Gissella Hartomo, Ritchie Permadi and Binus for having us! Also to Caroline Sunarko for the pic!

DOLCE CAFFÈ by Giuseppe Salerno and Paco González
"DOLCE CAFFÈ is pretty hand-written font that is very legible and high in style and carefully constructed all-uppercase letters. Has been designed in the 2011. Was totally inspired by hand written chalkboards in Berlin. City that I do love.
All the glyphs are designed by hands first, and then vectorized with Illustrator CS5. Use this typeface when you need a neatly handwritten style. Uppercase only!"

Punctuation Mark - Besi Tua
An interesting experiment of illustrative-typo came from Michael Alexander, a design student from Bandung, Indonesia. Each punctuation marks in Besi Tua has its own story based from his past which associated with the characteristics of each punctuation mark symbols & functions. "The Question Mark on Besi Tua represents plant’s vines (aloevera) climbs out from a steam-punked type iron can. It represents my past confusedness of Aloevera when I still lived in Bangka, South Sumatra. My 7-years old me asked my mother, “what is that thing, mom?” with a twisted face, curiously examined the plant. And so on the other punctuation marks stories, some of them are too personal to tell."
Arcano was born with drawings of special glyphs in Chinese ink. In each letter you will find symbols, diamonds, leaves, and more. I usually work with Chinese ink because the black is always so deep and sharp. The substrate was a Japanese calligraphy paper, used because it’s smooth, bleed-proof, and the warm white of the sheets makes the ink come out even more.
Arcano has been scanned and traced, with Fontlab, the best typography software that I know. It was a lot of work, spanning four months, 26 letters and 10 numbers. There are no commas, dots, or accents, and I recommend Arcano Type for large text.
